El guionista Richard Price puso al protagonista –un oficial de policía- el mismo nombre que un detective real de Jersey City, el detective Calvin Hart. Previamente, el mismo detective había inspirado el personaje de André el Gigante en “Clokers” la novela de Price sobre la que también se hizo una película.
En esta audaz película de suspense de Barbet Schroeder, David Caruso interpreta a un ex-convicto que regresa a la vida del crimen para llevar a cabo su último atraco. Un detective(Samuel L. Jackson) le ofrece la libertad a cambio de desenmascarar a un gángster (Nicolas Cage). Caruso se encontrará atrapado entre la ley, que necesita su ayuda y la mafia, que quiere su silencio.
