Meet Sartana, a different breed of Spaghetti Western. Unlike his predecessors, the dusty Man with No Name of the Dollars trilogy or the mud-caked Django, Sartana (Gianni Garko) is a debonair type but with an air of mystery. His dresses in a Count Dracula-like cloak, hinting at a special quality, that also recalls comic strip figure Mandrake the Magician. And there's an air too of James Bond, sharing his taste for gadgetry as well as a dry sense of humour.
Like the Man with No Name and Django, Sartana's adventures begin when he arrives in a small town rife with corruption. A rogue's gallery of villainy - including William Berger (Five Dolls for an August Moon), Klaus Kinski (Death Smiles on a Murderer) and Sydney Chaplin (The Sicilian Clan) - are after a chest of gold, double-crossing and blackmailing each other in order to get their hands on it. But they don't count on Sartana getting involved and scuppering their plans.
Directed by Giafranco Parolini (who would later rework the film's storyline for Return of Sabata), If You Meet Sartana... Pray for Your Death is a fast-paced tale of greed and revenge blessed with an outstanding cast and equally impressive body count.
